The expansion of Right to Work checks is now just days away, with important changes coming into force from 1 October 2026.

For businesses that use self-employed contractors, subcontractors, agency workers or other flexible labour arrangements, this is an important compliance deadline to be aware of.

The rules are expanding beyond traditional employees, meaning businesses need to look more closely at how and where their workforce is engaged.

Getting this wrong will be costly, with up to a £60,000 fine per operative initially, and a potential custodial sentence in extreme cases.

The bar for compliance is also higher, in that photo ID documentation, such as a drivers licence, will no longer be acceptable. The checks required undoubtedly take up a lot of time and resources for any business, so Mineral Payroll are here to help.

To date, we have undertaken over 2,000 checks as part of our onboarding process, ensuring our clients remain compliant at all times.
